How to do Social Housing – the Vienna model.

Visitors to Vienna probably won’t be surprised to hear that in 2023, (and for the eighth time!) Vienna has been declared the most liveable city in the world by the Global Liveability Index compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

People can easily recognise the appeal of the city’s music, galleries and museums and the delights of schnitzel, strudel and Sacher Torte but more important to residents is the well-functioning infrastructure, especially the availability of easily affordable, high quality public and private rented accommodation.  This is the result of consistent policy decisions developed over the last  hundred years and recognised world-wide as a standard to aspire to.

Pauline Crump will outline the history of this policy and its implementation in Vienna. She will also explore the relevance of this strategy for other places such as UK cities and towns.
